Refurbishing an AS350 B2 from nose to tail

It takes a village...

In October of this year an AS350 B2 arrived from Pittsburgh, United States sold to Matt Newton from Precision Helicopters. Once on NZ soil, our projects team went to work with the explicit goal of all inspections, paint, interior, and numerous other upgrades to be completed before the end of the year.

Our sales team first met with Matt Newton from Precision Helicopters in the Sunshine Coast at our booth during Rotortech earlier this year. With operational needs discussed, a suitable aircraft was proposed, and negotiations began. A few months later saw the agreement signed by both parties at the AIA conference.

The entire Oceania Aviation team came together and played a significant role to deliver this aircraft within the promised time before Christmas.

“Our team really showed off with this one. I couldn’t be prouder of their work and of what we were able to deliver for Matt. From our avionics team to the guys on the floor, our Component Shop and Airborne Systems team, it really was a complete team effort, and it all came together right before Christmas,” says General Manager Doug Banks.

On December 19th the newly re-furbished AS350 was ready to go home with Matt. In her time with us, she underwent a complete conversion from EMS configuration, a 12-year inspection, the installation of one of our cargo pods, cargo hooks and bleed air systems, an overhauled tail rotor gearbox, and upgraded avionics with a new ADS-B transponder, audio panel and VHF radio. To finish the project, the machine had a full interior and exterior repaint to match the bright red of the Precision fleet.

Matt and his daughter took delivery of the aircraft, and it was clear that the project surpassed all expectations. Matt thanked the team for their work, did a thorough inspection and subsequently set off south to Taranaki where they will be using the AS350 for hunting and tourism. If you’re ever in the area, make sure you check them out. Matt Newton said after taking possession:

“The Oceania team have done a showpiece job of re-building our new B2. They went out of their way and worked through many weekends in order to get the aircraft flying before Christmas. We are very grateful for the quality service and the high standard of our new machine.”

Enjoy your new machine Matt. We are proud to have been part of this project.
